Violent people often blame alcohol and drugs for their aggressiveness and for hurting someone. Neither alcohol nor drugs automatically lead to violence. If people know that they make them more violent, they should be responsible enough to stay away from them.
Domestic violence occurs when someone is prepared to commit it. There is always a decisive moment in which a hand is raised, a fist balled, a kick aimed. Each person is responsible for this decision. There are no excuses.
If you witness severe violence, you should act immediately, if only to protect yourself. You could leave the apartment or get help, for example from the police. If you can’t leave the apartment, you could call the police. They will come straightaway.
